Apple Mail 4.0 Set up
Estimated Reading Time: 2 MinutesThis guide will help you configure your SpinTel email account in Apple Mail 4.0 using IMAP, which is the recommended account type.
Tip: IMAP keeps your emails, folders, and sent items synchronised across all your devices. If you access your email on more than one device, IMAP is the recommended option.
Before You Begin
Have the following information ready:
- Your SpinTel email address
- Your email password
Step 1: Open Apple Mail
- Open Mail.
- If no email accounts have been configured, the Welcome to Mail window will appear automatically.
- If you already have an email account configured, select Mail > Preferences > Accounts, then click the + button to add a new account.
Step 2: Enter Your Account Information
Complete the following fields:
| Field | What to Enter |
|---|---|
| Full Name | Your preferred display name |
| Email Address | Your full SpinTel email address |
| Password | Your SpinTel email password |
Click Continue.
Step 3: Configure the Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
When prompted, enter the following settings:
| Setting | Value |
| Account Type | IMAP |
| Incoming Mail Server | imap.spintel.net.au |
| User Name | Your SpinTel email username (or full email address if prompted) |
| Password | Your SpinTel email password |
Click Continue.
If prompted to edit advanced settings, use:
| Setting | Value |
| Port | 993 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS |
Step 4: Configure the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Enter the following details:
| Setting | Value |
| Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) | smtp.spintel.net.au |
| Use Authentication | Enabled |
| User Name | Your SpinTel email username (or full email address if prompted) |
| Password | Your SpinTel email password |
If prompted to edit advanced settings, use:
| Setting | Value |
| Port | 587 |
| Encryption | STARTTLS/TLS |
Alternative: If Port 587 is unavailable, you can use Port 465 with SSL/TLS.
Important: If you're changing an existing email account from POP to IMAP or from IMAP to POP, we recommend backing up any important emails before making the change. This helps prevent accidental data loss, as some email applications store emails differently depending on the account type.
Step 5: Finish the Setup
- Review your account settings.
- Click Create or Done to finish.
- Apple Mail will connect to the server and begin synchronising your mailbox.
Troubleshooting
If you're unable to send or receive emails:
- Confirm your email address, username, and password are correct.
- Verify that the incoming and outgoing server names match the settings above.
- Ensure the correct ports and encryption settings are selected.
- Confirm SMTP Authentication is enabled.
- Check your internet connection.
- Close and reopen Apple Mail.
- Restart your Mac.
- Remove and re-add the email account if necessary.
- If you've recently changed your email password, update it in Apple Mail before trying again.
