How to Change the Wi-Fi Network Name and Password on your Modem

The default Wi-Fi name and password are printed on a sticker at the back of your modem.
Before anything else, if you don’t intend to reset the whole thing, you can simply follow the below tips on how to find your Wi-Fi password on computers and laptops.

How to Find your WiFi password
Steps on how to find your wifi password on computers and laptops
Windows
Follow these steps to find your wifi password on your Windows device:
1. If you have Windows 10, select the start button, then “Settings” > “Network & Internet” > “Status” > “Network and Sharing Center”.
2. If you have Windows 7 or 8.1, search for “Network”, then select “Network and Sharing Center” > “Connections” > “Select your wifi network”.
3. Select “Wifi Status” and select “Wireless Properties” > “Security tab” > “Show characters”.
4. Your network password will be displayed in the network security box.
How to find your wifi password on a Mac
Here are the two ways you can find a saved wifi password on your Mac device:
First option: Keychain Access App
Keychain Access is a macOS app that stores your passwords, and it’s the easiest way to see a Wi-Fi password on Mac:
1. Press Command + Spacebar to open the Spotlight search bar, and type in "Keychain Access."
2. Click to open Keychain Access.

In the left toolbar, go to the "Passwords" section.

Type in your Wi-Fi network name in the search bar (located in the upper right corner of the window).
3. Double-click on your network name and select “Show password” and, if necessary, enter your administrator password when prompted.
Second option: Terminal on Mac
The Mac Terminal is a command line system that gives you greater control of the operating system.
1. Use the spotlight search to launch the Terminal app.
2. Enter the command: security-find-generic-password-ga | grep “password”.
3. The system will then ask for your username and password authentication to view your network password.
Upon successful authentication, the Wi-Fi password will appear.
How to Change Your WiFi Name and Password
The model used below is an advanced Netcomm modem with dual-band wifi.

With your device connected wired or wirelessly to your modem, open up an internet page and type in: 192.168.20.1

Login using admin for Username/Password
Note: If you are connected via wireless whilst doing the steps below, please note that you will lose your connection after applying the changes, you need to connect to the WiFi again and enter the new credentials.
3. Click Wireless and confirm that "Enable Wireless" and "Enable Wireless Multicast Forwarding (WMF)" are enabled.
For an advanced modem, you have 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi you can personalise.
4. Select any of the following that you wish to change:
5. Make sure to reconnect your devices to the new credentials once updated.
To personalise your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi name:

Click 2.4GHz. You will be prompted with the Basic Page as shown below

Delete the existing SSID and change it to your preferred Wi-Fi name

Click Apply/Save to update.
To personalise your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi password:

Under Wireless > 2.4GHz, navigate to Security

Type in your preferred password (min. 8 characters long) in the WPA/WAPI passphrase box

Press Apply/Save

Reconnect your connected devices to the new Wi-Fi name/password
To personalise your 5GHz Wi-Fi name:

Navigate to Wireless > 5GHz. You will be prompted with the Basic Page as shown below

Delete the existing SSID and change it to your preferred Wi-Fi name

Click Apply/Save to update.
To personalise your 5GHz Wi-Fi password:

On the same Wi-Fi channel (5GHz), navigate to Security

Type in your preferred password (min. 8 characters long) in the WPA/WAPI passphrase box
