Mobile Broadband and Wireless Broadband Compared
Estimated Reading Time: 1 MinutesHome Wireless Broadband and Mobile Broadband are both powered by 4G mobile networks, but there are significant differences between them. Here are some things you need to know
Mobile Broadband
Mobile Broadband allows you to quickly access the web regardless of your location.
If you need a service on the go, Mobile Broadband is best for you. Check out the available offers here.
Wireless Broadband
Wireless Broadband plans are designed to be used at home or in the office. This requires a constant source of power to work. You can also use your modem at any location and get back online instantly. To check the amazing deals we have, click here.
Is there a difference in speed?
Both services operate over the Optus 4G Network. Speeds can vary across the Optus 4G Mobile Network and will depend on several factors such as congestion, location, local conditions, hardware, software and general internet traffic.
Can I use my own modem?
Our Wireless Broadband plan only works with the current modem listed on our website, the same goes with our Mobile broadband service. This will be sent to you in one package along with the SIM card in it.
However, if you have a similar model and purchased directly through Optus or an Optus reseller then you will have the option to get a SIM-only plan.
Once you received the modem/SIM card, head on to our activation page to activate the service.
Note: When purchasing month-to-month, you’ll need to pay an upfront cost for the modem. 4G Home Internet does not support medical devices or back-to-base alarms and may not achieve the same speeds as a fixed-line connection.
